The Journey is an autobiographical and essayistic book in which Sergio Pitol recounts his stay in the Soviet Union in the late 1980s, when he was invited to participate in a writers' congress in Moscow. Based on this experience, the author reflects on the fall of the socialist bloc, Russian culture, personal memory, and the relationship between literature and history.
