The trip

The Journey is an autobiographical and essayistic book in which Sergio Pitol recounts his stay in the Soviet Union in the late 1980s, when he was invited to participate in a writers' congress in Moscow. Based on this experience, the author reflects on the fall of the socialist bloc, Russian culture, personal memory, and the relationship between literature and history. As in other texts of his "Memory Trilogy," the narrative blends chronicle, diary, literary evocation, and cultural analysis, transforming the physical journey into an inner exploration.
